HERMANN MOGLING’S WORK
WHO IS HERMANN ? Herrmann Friedrich Moegling, was a German missionary from the Basel Mission who spent most of his career in the western regions of the state of Karnataka, India.
HIS CREDIT : He is credited as the publisher of the first ever newspaper in the Kannada language called as Mangalooru Samachara in 1843.
THE ADVENT OF HERMANN ? Hermann Mogling arrived in Mangaluru in 1836 as a missionary.
WHAT HE DID ? He learnt Kannada and also established Kannada-medium schools besides editing the medieval Kannada Kavya he collected and got it printed in lithograph between 1848-1856.
