U.S. TIGHTENS H-1B APPROVAL PROCESS, IT FIRMS WORRIED


WHAT IS H-1 B? The H-1B is a visa in the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act, section 101(a)(15)(H) which allows U.S. employers to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations.


WHAT IS THE ISSUE NOW ? US announced fresh measures to tighten the scrutiny of H-1B visa petitions.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH IT ? They are mandating fresh documentary requirements for workers at third-party worksites.


HOW IT IS RELEVANT WITH INDIA ? The move will impact Indian IT services providers that place employees with H-1B visas at American companies that contract them, by imposing more paper work and processing hurdles.

 
 

PAKISTAN ON WATCHLIST FOR TERROR FINANCING: Will face direct monitoring by ICRG


WHO SAID THIS ? The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary decided to put Pakistan back on the “grey list,”.


WHAT IS THE CONSEQUENCE ? Pakistan will be subjected to direct monitoring and intense scrutiny by the International Co-operation Review Group (ICRG) on terror financing.

IS THIS FINAL ? NO! It interim on pending further review in June.

WHAT ARE UJJWALA CONNECTION ? Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for providing LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households


WHAT IS THE TIME PERIOD OF THE SCHEME ? The Scheme would be implemented over three years, namely, the FY 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 across the country.


WHICH MINISTRY IS INVOLVED ? Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

 

NIA taps into legal aid pacts: Plot to smuggle in two Pak. nationals to carry out terror attacks busted


WHAT IS NIA ? The National Investigation Agency (NIA).


WHAT IT DID ? It sought assistance from countries under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to extract digital evidence to prove the involvement of a Pakistan diplomat stationed in Colombo in planning terror attacks across India.


WHAT IS MLAT ? A mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) is an agreement between two or more countries for the purpose of gathering and exchanging information in an effort to enforce public or criminal laws.


WHY IT IS MADE ? Modern states have developed mechanisms for requesting and obtaining evidence for criminal investigations and prosecutions.
