SRI LANKA DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY AMID VIOLENCE

NEWS : Sri Lanka declared an island-wide state of emergency.

WHY ? To curb growing anti-Muslim violence in the country’s Central Province.

THE CRUCIAL IDEA : The emergency allows us to deploy the army in case of any violent clashes.

WHAT IS NEXT ? The emergency will lapse in two weeks unless the parliament votes to extend it.

 
 

KOLLAM TO BRING ALL FOOD BIZ UNDER FSSA

NEWS : Kollam is set to become the first district in India to bring all food business operators under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).

AIM : All activities involved in food production should be safe and all entrepreneurs should come forward to take the licence

 

TURF WARS WITH ISRO STALL CONNECTIVITY: DOT OFFICIAL : Flags problem of ‘domains’ between the organisations

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ? India built the cheapest satellites but had the most expensive bandwidth, blaming turf wars between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Telecom (DoT) for delays in taking connectivity to far-flung areas.

WARNING : ISRO should do more in order to keep the charges on par with global experience.

 

BSF JAWAN FINED FOR ‘DISRESPECTING’ MODI

NEWS : A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been asked to pay a seven-day fine for “disrespecting”

WHY ? He referred to the zero parade as “Modi Programme”.


THE LAW : Mr. Kumar who is posted in West Bengal’s Nadia district was found “guilty” under Section 40 of BSF Act, 1968 (Act prejudicial to good order and discipline of the force).
