MARITAL RAPE NOT AN OFFENCE: GUJARAT HC
WHAT IS MARITAL RAPE ? marital rape = rape committed by the person to whom the victim is married.
IS MARITAL RAPE AN OFFENCE ? Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) considers the forced sex in marriages as a crime only when the wife is below age 15. Thus, marital rape is not a criminal offense under the IPC.
WHAT COURT HELD : It was held that non-consensual intercourse by a husband cannot be dubbed as rape.
WHICH COURT SAID THESE ? The Gujarat High Court .
WHAT WAS THE FACTS OF THE CASE ? The court made these observations in a case pertaining to a woman doctor’s complaint of rape and physical harassment by her husband, also a medical professional.
BUT THERE WAS AN EXCEPTION : However, it also stated that subjecting his married partner to have oral or unnatural sex was akin to cruelty.
IMPEACHMENT MOVE LOSING A RACE AGAINST TIME : With just four days left of session, key parties still undecided
WHAT IS IMPEACHMENT ? Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body formally levels charges against a high official of government.
WHAT WAS THE REASON TO INITIATE SUCH IMPEACHMENT AGAINT CJI OF INDIA ? Four senior judges of the Supreme Court raised concerns about his administration of the Supreme Court of India, and question his integrity – this was main cause for impeachment process.
WHAT LAW SAYS ABOUT IMPEACHMENT ? Article 124(4) of Constitution of India lays down the procedure for removal of a Judge of Supreme Court which is applicable to Chief Justice as well.
THE SITUATION : The possibility of Opposition parties moving an impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra seems to be fading with just four days for the current session of Parliament to end and many key Opposition parties yet to make up their mind.

NEWS : A total of 72 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) are currently affiliated to CBSE.
WHAT IS THIS EMRS ? Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme for model residential school for Indian tribals (Scheduled Tribes, ST) across India.
WHAT IS THE MINISTRY INVOLVED ? It was established by the Tribal Ministry, Government of India.
WHO FUNDS THE SCHEME ? The government gives one time Rs 30 lakh grant for establishing the school, thereafter up to Rs. 30 lakh per school annually. Additional cost is borne by state governments.
