TIRUR GETS CENTRE FOR CLASSICAL LANGUAGE
THE PLAN : Centre for Classical Language was planned to be established.
WHERE ? At the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, Tirur.
THE MINISTRY INVOLVED : The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has approved it.
THE AIM : The proposed centre would spur the development of Malayalam language and help the Malayalam university also.
‘DATA PROTECTION LAW FINALISED’
THE NEWS : The government had finalised the data protection law and it would soon be introduced in Parliament.
POINT TO NOTE : The government was in the process of finalising guidelines for social media intermediaries such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google and WhatsApp.
THE BILL ON PERSONAL DATA :
The draft bill, which was released last year, had proposed that critical personal data of Indian citizens be processed in centres located within the country.
It had also proposed financial penalties for data processor for violations of the data protection law.
Irrespective of how big the company was, if they tried to manipulate the data of Indians, strict action would be initiated.
SMARTPHONE INTERRED IN ‘TECHNO’ TIME CAPSULE
Treasure trove: A time capsule with objects that capture technology devices ‘buried’ in Jalandhar varsity.
What is a time capsule ? This time capsule is a historic cache of goods or information, intended as a method of communication with future people and help archaeologists, anthropologists and historians.
The process : An aluminium cupboard-like container, about 6 feet wide and 5 feet tall, served as the time capsule bearing the various objects. The objects sported labels featuring their names and a brief description of function. At the press of a button, the capsule was hydraulically lowered into the ground and sealed with a slab of concrete.
POINT TO NOTE : A laptop, smartphone, voltage resistor and a portable stereo were among an assortment of objects placed in a ‘time capsule’ that was “interred” by Nobel Laureates Duncan Haldane and Avram Hershko on the Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus.
AIM OF TIME CAPSULE : The objective is to capture today’s technological essence for the future generations. Time capsules have historically been a popular way for people to preserve their legacy.
‘SEVEN CITIES HAVE TACKLED FAECAL SLUDGE’
NEWS : The cities have been certified ODF++ - Seven cities – all in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – have been certified ODF++, according to the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban.
CITIES : Indore, Khargone, Sahaganj, Ujjain, Bhilai, Rajnandgaon and Ambikapur
WHAT IS ODF++ certification ? The certification, an extension of the ODF or Open Defecation Free protocol, means that all the faecal sludge and sewage in these cities is treated scientifically before discharge.
IMPORTANCE : These are the first cities to qualify under the government’s new extended protocol to sustain gains made under the basic ODF protocol.
