CURRENT AFFAIRS : ‘When 2 adults marry, none should interfere’ SUPREME COURT’S VOICE AGAINST HONOUR KILLING : Two adults are free to marry and “no third party” has a right to harass or cause harm to them.

WHAT IS HONOUR KILLING ? The killing of a girl or boy, who is perceived to have brought dishonour on the family.

THE PRACTICAL TRUTH : The girl or boy who marries or falls in love with other person who belongs to different religion, caste or gotra is killed to in name of safeguarding ones honour.

 

CURRENT AFFAIRS : Maldives government declares emergency

NEWS : The Maldives government on declared a state of emergency for 15 days

WHY EMERGENCY DECLARED ? There is a political crisis in the island nation and Supreme Court order to release Opposition leaders from prison.

WILL IT AFFECT TRADE ? During this time, though certain rights will be restricted, general movements, services and businesses will not be affected.

WILL SAFETY OF FOREIGN RESIDENTS BE AT RISK ? The Government assure the safety of all Maldivians and foreigners living in and visiting the Maldives .

 

CURRENT AFFAIRS : It’s Vadnagar’s place in the sun


NEWS : Prime Minister’s birthplace is being developed into a major tourist hub WHAT IS SPECIAL THERE ?Of course our PM’s birth place but also the town full of sites related to Hinduism and Buddhism is being showcased as a heritage destination.

HOW MUCH BUDGET IS SET FOR IT ? A joint venture of Gujarat state and Union would amount to 100 cr

MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION : The projects cover Vadnagar’s famous Kirti Toran, Sharmishtha lake, Hatkeshwar Temple and archaeological sites.

WHAT IS THE SCHEME UNDER WHICH IT IS DEVELOPED ? Union government’s Swadesh Darshan scheme.

FOREIGN FEAST : The famous Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang who visited the place around AD 640 referred to it as Anandpur.

 

CURRENT AFFAIRS : Vehicular pollution to hit generations: SC

WHAT DID SUPREME COURT SAY ? Vehicular pollution is “very serious” and a “critical problem” and observed that it would have an impact not only on this generation but also on the children yet to be born.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION THEN ? BS-VI emission standard is scheduled to come into force from April 1, 2020 across the country.

EXPECTED RESULT : Said pollution would come down by around 80% in case of the BS-VI vehicles, as compared to the BS-IV ones.
