CURRENT AFFAIRS : RINL GETS RS. 1,400 CRORE FOR CAPITAL EXPENDITURE

NEWS : The Centre has granted Rs. 1,400 crore towards capital expenditure during the ensuing financial year.

EXPENDITURE STREAM : The amount will be spent on the ongoing projects such as construction of the fifth coke oven battery, Kanithi Balancing Reservoir II, and some modernisation works.


WHO IS WILL DO WHAT ? • RINL is building the fifth coke oven battery as part of the expansion project. The construction will be completed in two years. • L&T has been awarded the contract for construction of the KBR II

 

CURRENT AFFAIRS : A HELPING HAND IN TIMES OF HEALTH CRISES

Budget proposes protection scheme to cover 10 crore poor households

INDIA’S AMBITIOUS PLAN : Plan is to launch “the world’s largest government-funded health care programme” that will benefit 10 crore households.

WHAT IS THE SCHEME ? The proposed National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) will provide coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family annually to take care of secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation costs.

WAS THERE ANY EXISTING SUCH PLANS ? The Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) now gives poor families an annual coverage of Rs. 30,000, while several State governments have implemented their own health insurance schemes with varying coverage levels.

 

CURRENT AFFAIRS : BUDGET AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

NEPAL : India’s annual financial allocation to Nepal for 2018-19 has nearly doubled under the Union Budget presented on Thursday.

BHUTAN : By ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, the Budget has allocated Rs. 5545 crore. Bhutan is traditionally the largest recipient of Ministry’s allocation.

MYANMAR : At Rs. 280 crore, Myanmar’s allocation too has improved from Rs. 220 crore of last year.
